Carrier is now required to comply with the requirements of the
International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as
amended in Chapter VI, Part A, Regulation 2, which requires Carrier
to provide the Verified Gross Mass (weight) of every loaded Container
that is tendered to an underlying Vessel Operator prior to loading of
the Container on board Ship.  Therefore, except as otherwise provided
on individual Web Rate Pages (TLIs), all LCL, Break Bulk, Palletized
or Loose Cargo which is tendered to Carrier to be loaded into a
Container for movement From, To or Thru the Ports and Points named
below will be SBJ to the CARGO GROSS MASS VERIFICATION CHARGE (VGM)
named below, which charge shall be in addition to all other applicable
charges.
   
a. At Carrier designated Origin Container Freight Station, Warehouse
   or Terminal, Carrier will both measure and weigh each piece,
   package or unit of cargo presented for transportation.  Regardless
   of Shipper's declaration of cargo dimensions, cubic volume and/or
   weight, Carrier's ascertained dimensions, volume and weight shall
   be deemed paramount and will be used to calculate the charges named
   in this Rule.
    
b. Carrier will assess the VGM charges named below on all
   non-containerized cargo which is containerized for transportation
   by Carrier:
