RULE: 2.2 - APPLICATION OF TARIFF RATE BASIS & CALCULATION OF CHARGES Eff: 15FEB1998

Effective 15FEB1998
Filed 16JAN1998
Filing Codes I

Except as otherwise provided in individual Tariff Rules,
Algorithms or TLIs, rates and charges named in this Tariff
are stated in U.S. Currency and apply per weight unit, per
measurement unit, per container or lumpsum per shipment as
specified. Calculation of freight and additional charges
will be based upon the applicable rate, times the number of
units tendered for transportation, subject to the
provisions named below.

a. Rates and/or additional charges stated on a weight unit
basis ("W" or "W-ton") apply per ton of 1000 kilos.

  i. Freight and additional charges on shipments subject
to rates or charges stated on a weight unit basis
will be computed on the gross weight of the cargo
PLUS the weight of all packing materials, pallets or
shipping containers (exclusive of the weight of the
ocean container) established at the time cargo is
     tendered for transportation at origin.

ii. Carrier reserves the right to weigh or reweigh, on
certified scales, any cargo tendered for shipment.
Any weight so ascertained by the Carrier shall be
deemed paramount and shall be used to compute freight
and additional charges regardless of any other
weight, certified or otherwise, declared or provided
by the Shipper or his agent. Shipper may however at
his own expense, seek independent certification of
the accuracy of any scales utilized by the Carrier.

b. Rates and/or additional charges stated on a measurement
unit basis ("M" or "M-ton") apply per cubic meter.

  i. Freight and additional charges on shipments subject
to rates or charges stated on a measurement unit
basis will be computed on the overall measurement of
each piece, package or unit in the shipment. The
cubical content of each piece, package or other unit
shall be the extreme dimensions of the length, width
and height of such piece, package or unit.

ii. Before any other calculations are made all fractional
centimeter or inch dimensions will be disposed of as
     follows:

   1. FRACTIONAL CUBIC FEET - Each item on the Bill of
Lading shall be considered separately. On a single
package of less than one cubic foot it shall be
freighted at one cubic foot. On a single package
in excess of one cubic foot, if the fraction is
less than one half cubic foot, it shall be dropped.
If the fraction is one-half cubic foot or over, it
shall be taken to the next cubic foot. On each
item on a Bill of Lading consisting of two or more
packages, actual fractions shall be used to determine
the total measurement of all the packages. Where
the total results in a fraction, such fraction shall
be dropped if less than one-half cubic foot. If the
fraction is one-half cubic foot or over, it shall be
taken to the next full cubic foot. All irregular
shaped objects will be measured by multiplying the
three dimensions and that the measurement used
for each dimension will be the "outside" measurement
      of that dimension.

   2. FRACTIONAL INCHES - All fractions under one-half
shall be dropped. All fractions over one-half inch
shall be taken to the next full inch. Where a
fraction of exactly one-half inch occurs in one
dimension, it shall be taken to the next full inch.
Where a fraction of exactly one-half inch occurs in
two dimensions, the one on the smaller dimensions
shall be taken to the full inch and the other
dropped. However, if both dimensions are equal,
increase one fraction to the next inch and drop the
other. Where fractions of exactly one-half inch
occur in three dimenstions, those on the largest and
smallest dimensions shall be taken to the next inch
and the other dropped. However, if all three
dimensions are equal, increase two of the fractions
to the next full inch and drop the other. All
irregular shaped objects will be measured by
multiplying the three dimensions and that the
measurement used for each dimension will be "outside"
      measurement of that dimensions.

   3. FRACTIONAL DIMENSIONS - Cubic Measurement for the
individual pieces or packages will be computed in
accordance with the following rules regarding
      fraction of centimeters:

      I. All fractions under one-half (1/2) centimeter are
         to be dropped.
II. All fractions over one-half (1/2) centimeter are to
be extended to the next full centimeter.
III. Where fractions of exactly one-half (1/2)
centimeter occur on one dimension, it shall be
extended to the next full centimeter.
IV. When extending freight charges on Bills of Lading,
the total measurement at each rate shall be
rounded off to the nearest 1/1000 (one/one-
         thousandth) cubic meter.
      V. All irregular shaped objects will be measured by
multiplying the three dimensions and that the
measurement used for each dimension will be the
         "outside" measurement of that dimension.

iii. When calculating freight and additional charges of
an irregular or unusually shaped piece, package or
unit, the 3 (three) greatest dimensions shall be used
as the rating measurements. When calculating freight
and additional charges of Barrels, Casks, Kegs, Drums
or other cylindrical shipping units, measurements
shall be taken on the square of the bilge.

iv. Whenever an individual piece, package or other
shipping unit is tendered for transportation and it
is requested by Shipper, or is necessary because of
the nature of the cargo or its packaging, that no
cargo be stowed on top of same, Carrier will use the
maximum inside height dimension of the transporting
container as the height of the cargo when calculating
     the freight or assessorial charges.

c. Rates and/or additional charges stated on an
alternating weight unit or measurement unit apply per
the weight or measurement unit, defined in Rule 2.2
paragraphs a. or b above, whichever produces the
   greatest revenue to the Carrier.

d. Rates and/or additional charges stated on a per
container basis ("PC") apply per single container by
capacity and type as defined below:

e. Rates and/or additional charges stated on a lumpsum
basis apply per a single complete unit or shipment not
exceeding a specified maximum weight or measurement
unit or a maximum number of containers.

f. CORRECTIONS IN WEIGHT AND/OR MEASUREMENTS: All freight
and assessorial charges billed on the basis of weight
and/or measurement are in all cases SUBJECT to revision
and correction if the weights and/or measurements are
found to be incorrectly stated or declared regardless
of the party responsible for the original error.
